St. Augustine (1535)

The fresco depicting St. Augustine (at the end of the tour, before leaving the Basilica, on the right) should be considered - according to Carlo Ridolfi (1648) and Carlo Carasi (1781) – as a sort of test; in fact, "having liked this painting", the Fabbricieri "wanted him to fresco the two chapels and the main tribune". According to Juergen Schultz (1967), followed later by Caterina Furlan (1988), the fresco was painted between 1532 and 1535.
